Expert crosswords are 11×11 with denser fill — fewer black squares, which means longer interlocking chains and more letters shared between entries. The vocabulary includes less common words, and clues are written to be genuinely tricky.

The density change matters more than it sounds. In a standard 11×11, black squares break the grid into manageable clusters. Expert grids connect those clusters, so a mistake in one corner ripples across the board. Accuracy matters here more than speed. Use the Check Word function to verify entries before building on them.
