How to Play Kakuro

Rules

  • Fill every white cell with a digit from 1 to 9.
  • Each clue number shows the sum of its entry (horizontal or vertical run of white cells).
  • No digit may repeat within an entry.
  • Clue cells show across sums (bottom-left) and down sums (top-right), separated by a diagonal.

About expert kakuro

Expert kakuro uses very large grids (12 to 14) with many entries. The sheer number of cells and constraints demands systematic candidate tracking. You can't hold it all in your head.

Use notes mode to write down every candidate for every cell. Work through entries methodically: filter combinations, apply cross-entry elimination, look for naked singles (cells with only one candidate). Each placement triggers a chain of eliminations in crossing entries.
